Dr. Wuman Luo is currently an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Macao Polytechnic University (MPU). She obtained her Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2013. Her research interests include Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, Spatial and Temporal Data Mining, and Medical AI. She leads the "Big Data Analytics" research team, focusing on areas such as disease diagnosis and treatment based on multi-modal electronic health records (HER), Personalized Treatment Based on TCM and Acupuncture, Stomatology, Automated Anesthesia, Sentiment Analysis, and Urban Computing.
In recent years, she has published over 50 international journal and conference papers. Her research has received several accolades, including the 2023 Outstanding Paper Award from Frontiers of Computer Science (FCS), the 2023 IEEE SMC Franklin V. Taylor Memorial Award, the Best Student Paper Award at IoTBDS 2021, and the 2018 F5000 Top Academic Paper Award from Chinese Science. Her work has been cited more than 1,400 times on Google Scholar, with her most cited paper receiving 309 citations.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of databases from 2012 to 2021, she was awarded the 2022 AI2000 Most Influential Scholar Honor in Databases. Additionally, she serves as the Principal Investigator or key participant in several national research projects, including the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), the National Natural Science Foundation projects, and research funding from Macao Polytechnic University. Patient Representation Learning for Disease Diagnosis: We develop innovative methods for patient representation learning based on Electronic Health Records (EHR) to enhance disease diagnosis and improve patient outcomes.
Personalized Treatment Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture: We explore TCM by integrating advanced deep learning and data mining methods, offering personalized herb recommendations and optimizing acupuncture practices through artificial intelligence to enhance treatment effectiveness.
Stomatology: We focus on dental and oral health, utilizing artificial intelligence and big data technologies to conduct research in areas such as orthodontics and dental restoration, as well as early detection and treatment of oral cancer.
Automated Anesthesia: We also work on automated anesthesia processes using deep learning to ensure safer and more efficient surgical procedures.
Urban Planning and Traffic Prediction: We apply big data techniques to analyze urban dynamics, facilitating smarter city planning and accurate traffic flow predictions.
Financial AI: We explore the intersection of finance and artificial intelligence, developing models for risk assessment, fraud detection, and investment strategies.
